Istaks CEO, Loftur Árnason, launched a new drilling barge. The barge was named Þrymur. Þóra Ásgeirsdóttir an Engineer at Istak, and Loftur’s wife, inaugurated the barge with a Champagne bottle.

In his inauguration speech, Loftur said that the barge is the first new built shipping vessel in Iceland for 20 years since the Hrisey ferry was built in the town of Akureyri. Loftur also said that Istak did ask for bids for the shipbuilding project for example from Poland, but decided to carry out the project on its own. The cost were about the same.
Loftur further said that name was chosen among several proposals that were turned in a name competition held at Istaks family fair day at its service department. The other names were, Glámur, Mjölnir, Þór and Moneymaker. Those who sent in these suggestions do expect a small gift as a token of appreciation from Istak.
At the inauguration itself, the survival instinct of the champagne bottle was noticed. It survived several breaking attempts at the side of the barge. After good advice from the ship building quality control engineer, the champagne bottle gave in, releasing a great applause from the guests.
