Ístak to build a Power Station north of Ilulissat on Greenland’s west coast
Ístak is to build a 22.5 MW Power Station in a desolate fjord north of the town of Ilulissat, which is north of 69° parallel. The contract is for complete design and construction. A transmission line from the station to a transformer yard that Ístak will build at the town is included. Ístak will also run the Power Station for a year after completion. The client is Nukissiorfiit, which is the national power company in Greenland.
Electricity generation is due to start in autumn 2012, when the first turbine will be commissioned. The plan is for the other two turbines to generate electricity in September 2013, putting the Power Station in full production. The cost is estimated at ISK 14 billion and some 150 people will work on the project at the height of construction. This Power Station is similar to the one at Sisimiut, which Ístak will hand over to the same client this winter. Sisimiut is a little further south on the Greenland west coast.
