Drill barge Ýmir
ÍSTAK has now completed building a purpose made drill barge in the workshop at Tungumelar, Mosfellsbær in Iceland.
The barge is sister ship of Þrymur, that was built at the same facility at the end of last year and has been working on deepening projects in Stamsund and Andenes at Lofoten in the north of Norway.
The 21.1 m long, 12 m wide barge will be used on a deepening project at Måløya on the Norwegian west coast. The barge is a totally local product, except for engines, pumps and controls. The barge will be taken to Norway this week.
These two are apparently the only ship building projects in Iceland for the last decade.
The barge was inaugurated on Friday 4 June and named Ýmir.
