The sustation in Krafla in Skútustaðahreppur, which will be situated north of the existing 132 kV substation by Krafla, will be a covered GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear). In this first phase the substation will connect to the excisting 132 kV substation through a 220/132 kV transformer (SP4) as well as the Kraflaline 4 (KR-4). The building is on one floor about 600 m2 in size and divided into a isolated control center and voltage space and an isolated steel frame contstruction for 220 kV GIS equipment. It is expected that the substation can enlarge in the future.
