The project – Subway under Aðaltún – involves construction of a new subway under the road Vesturlandsvegur by Aðaltún in Mosfellsbæ, connecting paths, degradation of existing subways, as well as changing existing and constructing new ways for a creek that runs there.
The creek that flows into the sewers underneath the current walk will be diverted into the new tunnel’s concrete channel. A new stream channel of minerals will be created and connected to the existing stream channel to divert it to the new tunnel. A rock shore will be made for the new stream, surrounded area cleaned up by turf laying /grass seeding and planting trees.
Parallel to the subway building the current tunnel shall be digged up and moved to the new diversion canal – either by the contractor or the water supply companies. It is expected that a developer on behalf of Reykjavik Energy – Orkuveita Reykjavíkur – will dig up and reinstall all the pipes from Orkuveita Reykjavíkur and Mila.
The traffic on the road Vesturlandsvegur is today about 20 thousand cars each day. Before eruption of the road a bypass for cars with a subway for cyclists and pedestrians will be built.
